Positive Attitude

Having a positive attitude when entering the work force or workplace will carry you a long way. From experience trust me I know. Positive attitude as in coming to work with a clear and free mind with a happy spirit. This way all the trouble will be kept away from you. With everyone enjoying your company, this will automatically prevent arguments or disagreement. If you come into work looking upset ignoring people with a bad attitude workers might think you are mad at then this can lead to gossip, betrayal, and tension. If what you have to say is not appropriate don't say it try to keep your comments to yourself, following all these rules will guide you to a successful and healthy work environment. When I first started working at my job I used to let everything get to me and I would stress out really bad, this caused me to always be in a bad mood and no one really wanted to communicate with me. I then found my self really miserable so I changed my attitude and tried to be positive , it took a while but it defiantly worked out I enjoy working and love my team. Therefore always come to work with a positive attitude, keep calm and carry on :)

Winning in Workplace Politics

7 ways to win in workplace politics:

  1. Be aware you have a choice
  2. Know what you are trying to achieve
  3. Focus on your circle of influence
  4. Don't take sides
  5. Don't get persona;
  6. Seek to understand before being understood
  7. Lastly think win win

Do's and Don't when dealing with difficult co-workers

Here is another list of thinks you should and should not do while dealing with a difficult co worker:

  1. Do examine yourself.
  2. Don’t avoid your feelings
  3. Do confide in a friend or family member.
  4. Don’t gossip
  5. Do consider your options
  6.  Don’t avoid the problem
  7.  Do confront the coworker
  8. Don’t take the low road
  9. Do involve others, if necessary
  10. Don’t expect poor treatment

Workplace Cooperation

The best way to resolve and prevent all these workplace politics and gossip is workplace cooperation. This is one of the best ways to resolve jealousy, hatred or anything that could lead to work politics. In the workplace depending on your position everyone should be treated fairly and equally. In my opinion there should be a lot of communication meetings to keep let everyone speak their minds and give opinions of what could be done differently or how they feel. For example at my workplace there is a lot of arguments, work politics, work gossip, favouritism and disagreements. All of this could possibly be reduced or resolved if we had meetings where we could speak our mind to try and help change things so that is is a good work environment. Sometimes I dread going to work due to all the conflict and tension , there is always something happening or always another argument , or another rumor that is spread. I believe this could all easily be prevented from more communication with everyone including management. Therefore I think workplace cooperation is one very important step to keeping the workplace healthy and free of workplace politics.

How to deal with a dismissive, disrespectful, and arrogant coworker ?

Within the workplace there will be many people we either get along with or don't, that's just how life is. But we don't always have to put up with disrespectful people. Instead of arguing with your co-worker and causing problems, or threatening your job there are other ways you can deal with them. Here are some tips and ways on how to deal with a dismissive, disrespectful, and arrogant co-worker:

1.     Remain calm in any hectic situation.
2.     Report to a supervisor right away if any trouble with a worker instead of reacting
3.     Think about your job first
4.     Always stay positive in any situation
5.     Ignore your co-worker if they are annoying, offending or bothering you
6.     Focus on behaviour
7.     Stay far away, try keeping to yourself so there is no involvement
8.     Be strong!
9.     Most importantly don't catch on to their ways or you will become that co worker

Nobody's Friend

This is a poem about Gossip that I found on the internet, the author is anonymous.

Nobody’s Friend

My name is Gossip.

I have no respect for justice.

I maim without killing.

I break hearts and ruin lives.

I am cunning and malicious and gather strength with age.

The more I am quoted the more I am believed.

My victims are helpless. They cannot protect themselves against me because I have no name and no face.

To track me down is impossible. The harder you try, the more elusive I become.

I am nobody’s friend.

Once I tarnish a reputation, it is never the same.

I topple governments and wreck marriages.

I ruin careers and cause sleepless nights, heartaches and indigestion. I make innocent people cry in their pillows.

Even my name hisses. I am called Gossip.

I make headlines and headaches.

Before you repeat a story, ask yourself:
    Is it true?
    Is it harmless?
    Is it necessary?
If it isn’t, don’t repeat it.
